The extraordinary conference format is a winner: more than 1,650 developers and programmers are expected from 28th to 30th March 2017 at the fourth edition of the JavaLand in Phantasialand in Brühl. Visitors want to get informed on the latest trends of the scene with more than 100 presentations. The event, organized in cooperation with Heise Medien and the Interessenverbund der Java User Groups e.V. (iJUG), started off in the year 2014 with 800 Java enthusiasts.

JavaLand 2017 has plenty to offer for the participants: During the two-day program with more than 100 presentations and many community activities, Java enthusiasts have many opportunities to catch up on current developments in the field of Java. On top of that, the accompanying exhibition with more than 35 exhibitors once again offers exciting technologies and chances for networking. Subsequently, participants can deepen their knowledge in eight workshops on the third conference day.

On the first event evening, the traditional "Open Park" took place: Numerous carnival rides of the Phantasialand were exclusively open for the participants. Afterwards, the ensemble "Deine Band" supplied best entertainment.

"The JavaLand has developed into one of the largest and most significant events of the Java community since its beginnings in 2014. We are pleased that our extraordinary event format is so well-received that we could double the number of participants", says Fried Saacke, chairman of the iJUG.

Extending Knowledge, Networking, and riding Rollercoasters

With two keynotes, the first event day immediately had two highlights in the program: Java champion Martin Thompson offered a new perspective on development of software architectures in his presentation. "What would happen if we strictly followed the design requirements?", he asked his audience. It is often enough that software architectures are determined by forces that have nothing to do with technology or application requirements. If we, in contrast, follow the design patterns required for high performance, efficiency, security, and usability, this would frequently result in surprising architectures and development approaches.

What happens to companies who do not wake up in time for digitalization was made very clear in the keynote of Jean-Jacques van Oosten, Chief Digital Officer of the Rewe Group: "These companies can make their will." He explained to the audience how we could proficiently approach digitalization using the example of digital transformation of the Rewe Group.

JavaLand4Kids for 30 future Programmers and Developers

The little sister of the JavaLand already took place on Monday: The JavaLand4Kids focuses on programmers and developers of tomorrow. In this third edition, approximately 30 participating fourth-graders of Sankt Augustin playfully experienced programming in three exciting workshops. This year featured the following: electronics crafting ("Chibitronics"), the Lego Mindstorms robot "EV3", and the driving drone "Jumping Sumo".

The date for the fifth edition of the JavaLand is already set: It will take place from 13th to 15th March 2018 at the usual place in Phantasialand.
