The DOAG Database Community

The database community focuses on all aspects of the Oracle database, from installation and configuration to tuning. It also deals with other products such as MySQL, PostgreSQL and other databases. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to contact us at DBC@~@doag.org. Topics

Administration/Operations

Topic managers:
Jürgen Vitek, Bruno Cirone, Matthias Mann

By Database Operations we mean all aspects of the day-to-day work of the DBA, including:

  • Administration: Installation, Upgrades, Backup, and Recovery
  • Security: Hardening, Patching, Encryption, Assessments
  • Automation
  • Performance Tuning, Data Modeling
  • Monitoring
  • Migrations
  • High Availability: Implementation of fault-tolerant (infrastructure) architectures between application and database

In addition to Oracle, our expertise also includes the best-known open source database systems like MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL.

Architecture

Topic managers:
Marco Pachaly-Mischke, Elke Fritsch, Dagmar Förster

The architecture section is all about the differences, similarities and critical structures of databases on-premises, in the cloud and on various containers. In other words, the basic infrastructure on which the database is ultimately operated. What needs to be considered when migrating between these “worlds”, for which purposes is which architecture best suited and what is the best way to monitor heterogeneous database landscapes?

Artificial Intelligence

Topic managers:
Cornelia Heyde, Birgit Arndt

Are AI and ML changing the way databases are managed and used? Can AI-powered databases process queries more efficiently and accurately? What role do ML algorithms play in detecting patterns and trends? Do AI-driven databases help detect and respond to anomalies and security threats? What are the benefits of automated database maintenance through AI?

Data Management

Topic managers:
Borys Neselowski, Christian Pfundtner

Data is very important and is often referred to as gold. The amount of data is constantly increasing. Based on the information collected, analyses are carried out and reports and decision templates are created. These then serve as the basis for decisions and business adjustments and thus influence the success of companies. Data management covers all aspects, starting with concepts and architectures for integrating and aggregating a wide variety of data sources, through processing and storage, to (real-time) analysis and use for reporting and management decisions. The topics of machine learning algorithms and AI for processing and evaluating data should also not be forgotten here.

Data Governance & Sovereignty

Topic managers:
Matthias Jung, Andreas Buckenhofer

We see “Data Governance & Sovereignty” as a fundamental basis for the management and protection of data in an increasingly digitalized and globally networked world. In the context of databases, data governance primarily means the consistent management of data quality, security and access rights. DBAs play a key role here, as they are responsible for implementing and monitoring policies and processes that ensure the proper use and protection of data. We understand data sovereignty to mean that data is under the legal and political sovereignty of the country or region in which it is stored or processed. How and whether a user is tied to a product, a group or an institution plays a central role here. The challenge is how easy or difficult it is to use alternatives without the change being associated with high costs or restrictions. This not only has technical implications, but also profound implications for compliance and data protection, especially with regard to international regulations such as the GDPR.
