In our interview series "JavaLand Top-Speaker Check" we present you Emily Jiang today – Java Champion, MicroProfile Guru and Senior Technical Staff Member at IBM.

Emily, you will give two talks at this year’s JavaLand: “What’s New in MicroProfile?” and “Validating LLMs – a true story”. Why did you choose these particular topics?

MicroProfile establishes a programming model for developing cloud native Java applications. It is important for Java developers to learn about the latest update from the MicroProfile community and learn how to use the programming model to improve their application development including REST Client, Fault Tolerance, OpenAPI, and Telemetry update.

As for the second talk “Validating LLS”: Java developers should embrace GenAI if they want to stay competitive in the job market. It is important to choose the suitable GenAI code assistant tools and LLMs to improve their efficiency. In this talk, I will share some metrics for validating LLMs so that the audience can understand how LLMs are ranked and able to make judgement on choosing the suitable code assistant and LLMs to help with their daily tasks.

You will also be one of the hosts of the panel discussion “Ask me anything – the Experts sessions!” on Jakarta EE & MicroProfile.

Yes, I would like to connect with the MicroProfile and Jakarta EE end users by answering any questions about MicroProfile and Jakarta EE. We will also use this interactive session to gather some feedback from the Java community to influence the future roadmap of MicroProfile and Jakarta EE.

Where are you traveling to JavaLand from and how do you pass the time during the trip?

I live in the United Kingdom and travel to JavaLand by air. The trip will take about two hours. I normally watch videos and work on my demos and slides for my talks.

What are you most looking forward to at this JavaLand and what benefits do you hope to gain from the event?

I am looking forward to meeting old friends at JavaLand and make new friends. I am hoping to exchange knowledge with others and learn the new challenges and technologies other people are working on.
